Snail and slug poison (metaldehyde)

EmergencyCall nowHousehold

Especially affected animals: Dog, Cat

Why it is dangerous

Metaldehyde in snail baits used in gardens quickly causes digestive and nervous system signs. If left untreated, tremors and seizures can raise body temperature to dangerous levels.

Possible signs

  • Drooling
  • Vomiting
  • Restlessness
  • Tremors
  • Seizures
  • Excessive rise in body temperature

What to do

Take the product's box with you and call a veterinarian immediately and head to the clinic, even if there are no signs. Do not try to make your pet vomit unless the veterinarian tells you to.

This is general guidance and does not replace a veterinary examination. Ask your veterinarian for a plan tailored to your pet.
