Why it is dangerous
Nicotine is a fast-acting poison with a narrow margin of safety. Cigarette butts, tobacco, e-cigarette liquid, and nicotine gum are the main sources. Some nicotine products may also contain xylitol, which is itself toxic to dogs.
Possible signs

- Vomiting
- Restlessness
- Tremors
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Shallow breathing
- Collapse
What to do
Take the product's packaging and call your veterinarian immediately. Even if your pet vomits on its own, an examination may still be needed. Do not try to make your pet vomit unless your veterinarian tells you to.
