Why it is dangerous
All parts of the sago palm are poisonous; the seeds are the most dangerous. The cycasin they contain can cause severe vomiting, liver damage, low blood sugar and bleeding problems, even in small amounts.
Possible signs
- Vomiting (may be bloody)
- Diarrhea
- Black, tar-like stool
- Weakness
- Staggering
- Seizure
What to do
Remove the plant and take a photo of it. Call your veterinarian immediately, even if there are no symptoms. Do not try to induce vomiting unless the veterinarian tells you to.
Do not try to make your pet vomit; if needed, the vet will do it at the clinic. Bring the packaging with you.
