Especially affected animals: Cat, Dog
Why it is dangerous
Paracetamol is very dangerous for cats; even small amounts relative to body weight can cause poisoning, and signs usually begin within a few hours. In cats, the blood's ability to carry oxygen is impaired; in dogs, liver damage is more commonly seen. Some cold medications also contain paracetamol.
Possible signs
- Brown or bluish gums
- Swelling of the face and paws
- Difficulty breathing
- Weakness
- Vomiting
- Drop in body temperature
What to do
Take the medication's box and call your veterinarian immediately, without waiting for signs to appear. Do not try to make your pet vomit unless the veterinarian tells you to. Do not give your pet any human medication unless your veterinarian recommends it.
