SeriousCall us; the vet will advisePlant

Especially affected animals: Dog, Cat

Why it is dangerous

Kalanchoe contains compounds called bufadienolides, which can affect the heart. In most cases only vomiting and diarrhea are seen; however, if a large amount is eaten, the heart rhythm can be disrupted.

Possible signs

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Lethargy
  • Change in heart rate (rare)
  • Collapse (rare)

What to do

Remove the plant and note how much your pet ate. Call your veterinarian immediately and explain the situation. Do not try to induce vomiting unless the veterinarian tells you to.

Do not try to make your pet vomit; if needed, the vet will do it at the clinic. Bring the packaging with you.

This is general guidance and does not replace a veterinary examination. Ask your veterinarian for a plan tailored to your pet.
