Ivy (Hedera)

CautionAsk your vetPlant

Especially affected animals: Dog, Cat

Why it is dangerous

The compounds in the leaves and berries of ivy (pentacyclic triterpenoids) irritate the digestive system when eaten.

Possible signs

  • Drooling
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

What to do

Remove the plant and call your veterinarian right away to explain the situation; the vet will tell you whether an examination is needed. Do not try to induce vomiting unless your vet tells you to.

Do not try to make your pet vomit; if needed, the vet will do it at the clinic. Bring the packaging with you.

This is general guidance and does not replace a veterinary examination. Ask your veterinarian for a plan tailored to your pet.
